August 9, 2019 -   Theodore Roosevelt National Park

We had a great time in Medora visiting the National Park, seeing the Medora Musical and the ambiance of town Medora itself.  We were, however,  weary from traveling so far in such a short time so decided to kick back and relax. Getting too old to push this hard. Didn't do much but walk into town and had lunch then prepared for our journey back home.

Found some cute homes (top) and unusual architecture (bottom) on our walk.

August 10, 2019    Prairie Breeze RV Park, Menoken, ND (Travel Day and driving the Enchanted Highway)

We got a late start leaving the campground so decided to try to  get a site at Prairie Breeze in Menoken, ND. I called that morning and the woman thought she might fit us in. It was on our way and just off the highway so we took our chances and didn't call any other CG's. Not that we could find any others on our way.  LOL

Ron found a reference to the Enchanted Highway and decided we should take the side trip and see what it was all about.

Enchanted Highway

The Enchanted Highway is a collection of the world's largest scrap metal sculptures[1] constructed at intervals along a 32-mile (51 km) stretch of two-lane highway in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of North Dakota. The road has no highway number, although its northern portion is 100 12th Avenue SW (counting from Bismarck, ND, which is 85 miles [137 km] to the east). Local artist Gary Greff conceived of the project, built it beginning in 1989, maintains it and plans more sculptures. A goal is to counter the trend toward extinction of small towns such as Regent, North Dakota. The Enchanted Highway extends north from Regent to the Gladstone exit on Interstate 94 east of Dickinson. Each sculpture has a developed pull-out and several have picnic shelters. The highway passes through scenic farm country with intermittent buttes. Regent is a popular pheasant hunting area, and wild game is abundant.
In 2012, Greff opened a motel, The Enchanted Castle, in Regent. The motel continues the theme of the Enchanted Highway.

Geese in Flight is one of many schulptures along the Enchanted Highway between Gladstone and Regent.

Touring the Enchanted Highway was fun but we were not always able to get a parking space with the MH towing a car. So some pictures were just drive-by shots.

This was a great spot with plenty of room to turn around. Such a talented man who had no artistic training  but was able to take  scrape metal and create!!!

It was an interesting side trip and we are glad we did it. When we arrived at Prairie Breeze RV Park in Menoken, we were greeted by the owner. We had several spots to choose from because of cancellations and being a  weekend we we happy to get anything.  We settled in for the night with another travel day ahead of us.

August 11, 2019 - Alexandria Minnesota  Shooting Park  (Travel Day)

It was just another travel day. Ron stayed on the main roads so we were able to cover more miles then we did on the back roads we traveled on the way to ND.  Around  2 pm I  began calling CG's in the area. We were pretty remote so thought we would be able to get a CG despite it being A Saturday in high season. H, no such luck. Every CG out here in the remote farmland of Minnesota was full. The last place I called a very nice woman suggested the Alexandria Shooting Park. They weren't having a tournament so she gave us the number to call. They did have a site, in fact 100 sites, so we headed over. It was a self register, self pay situation. There were only three other RV's there so we had pick of the place.
Lots of Sites

This worked out well because we weren't sure where we were going to stay because there were no rest areas or truck stops in this area.   If it wasn't for the kind lady who knew about this place we would have been driving into the night. It was just an electric but that is all we needed since we are self contained.
